SERVICES

Batteries

Your vehicle's battery primarily helps to start the engine while storing energy generated by the alternator and running the secondary electrical systems or additional components in your vehicle. To ensure the best care of your battery, we tighten loose hold-down clamps and terminals, remove corrosion, and check the alternator belt tension and wear.

Brakes

Stay confident in the power of your brakes. We encourage brake checks at least once a year—more often if you drive frequently in city traffic or live in a hilly area. For best brake maintenance, never drive with the parking brake on. Get your brakes checked if you hear a high-pitched squeak while braking or a  scratching or grinding noise when not braking. Be sure to check your brake fluid for leaks.

Electrical System

Your vehicle's electrical system is made up of a complex network of circuits that create, store and distribute energy where it's needed. Much of your electrical system maintenance can be done through A1 Automotive.

During a battery inspection, technicians at a A1 Automotive check the overall car battery and case condition, Cable connections, and hold-down hardware.

When checking the starter, our technicians inspect cable connections and mounting bolts and brackets. They will also conduct a Starter Electrical "Draw" Test to check the amount of electricity needed to turn the engine over.

When checking the alternator, our technicians will conduct an overall visual inspection, inspect the drive belt and mounting brackets, test the electrical connections and complete a Charging System Test to ensure that the alternator current and voltage are to manufacturer's specifications.

Fluids

Every vehicle needs several automotive fluids, including engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze and power steering fluid, to run properly. Bring your vehicle to A1 Automotive to make sure your vehicle's fluids are filled to the proper level, clean, clear and free of leaks.

Heating & Air Conditioning

Maintain a comfortable climate inside your car with proper inspections and system testing of your heating and air conditioning systems.

A thorough inspection includes:

  • Inspecting the interior controls and blower

  • Checking radiator coolant level, hoses, pressure cap and thermostat

  • Testing the compressor belt

  • Checking for leaks or other damage

System testing includes:

  • A cooling system pressure test

  • Comparing the A/C pressure to manufacturer specifications

  • Testing the A/C system for refrigerant leaks

  • Check the interior vent air temperature

Suspension Systems

The steering and suspension systems bear the weight of your vehicle, keep the tires on the road, and help you experience a smooth, controlled ride. A technician at A1 Automotive can examine all of your steering and suspension components, including:

  • Inner and Outer Tie Rod Ends

  • Idler Arm

  • Pitman Arm

  • Rack and Pinion Unit

  • Rack and Pinion Bellows Boots

  • Springs

  • Shock and/or Struts

Belts and Hoses

To prevent failure of your vehicle’s belts and hoses, check them at regular intervals: every 3,000 miles or every oil change.

During a belt inspection, our technicians check each belt for glazing, cracking, peeling and softening, proper tensioning, and proper drive pulley alignment. During a hose inspection, our technicians conduct a cooling system pressure test to identify leaks, and check for hardening, cracking and softening.

Drivelines

The driveline of your vehicle takes the power generated by the engine and transforms it into the rotation of the wheels, and thus, the speed of the vehicle.

To care for your driveline, watch and maintain the proper level of transmission fluid. Ask a technician at A1 Automotive to inspect your CV and universal joints for loss of lubricant or excessive movement. You can also bring your vehicle in for a test drive to check for any noises or vibration taking place during acceleration that could indicate a joint problem.

Engine Diagnostics

Today's vehicles are equipped with highly sophisticated electronic engine control systems. At the first sign of any engine problems, such as rough running, low fuel economy, failure to pass an emissions test or dashboard warning lights, be sure to get service as soon as possible.

By tapping into your vehicle's computer, technicians at A1 Automotive can check a multitude of engine components:

  • Ignition System

  • Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)

  • Restraint Systems

  • Fuel injection System

  • Emissions

  • Electrical

Oil, Lube and Filter Changes

Your vehicle relies on oil, lubrication and an oil filter to run smoothly. Every three months or 3,000 miles, your vehicle should be ready for an oil change. Check the owner’s manual for specific recommendations for your vehicle.

Oil, lube and filter changes include:

  • Changing the oil filter

  • Checking the air filter

  • Checking and topping off all fluids under the hood

  • Lubricating all fittings

  • Checking engine for leaks

  • Checking belts and hoses

  • Checking tire pressure

Checking entire undercarriage

Tune Ups

A tune-up helps prevent problems while identifying and replacing worn parts. Maintaining a regular tune-up schedule will help your vehicle last longer, get better gas mileage, and improve its performance.

Most vehicles require regularly scheduled tune-ups around every 30,000 miles. Check your owner's manual to see if this is correct for your vehicle.

A thorough tune-up performed by a technician at A1 Automotive includes:

  • Replacing the air filter

  • Replacing the fuel filter(s)

  • Installing new spark plugs and replacing any worn spark plug wires

  • Inspecting and installing a new distributor cap if one is needed

  • Inspecting and installing a new rotor if the old one has cracks, burning or carbon build-up

  • Inspecting the valve-cover gasket and adjusting the valves (on vehicles with adjustable valves)

  • Checking and topping off all fluids

  • Checking the battery and cleaning the terminals

  • Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve replaced, if clogged

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Monthly Checklist

Taking your vehicle to A1 Automotive each month can help make sure your vehicle is operating correctly and running smoothly.

You can also raise the hood and not be intimidated by following a few simple recommendations for owner maintenance. A few minutes each month could save you money or repairs down the line.

  • Check battery cables, clamps and terminals

  • Check the following levels and add the recommended fluids as necessary:

    • Oil level

    • Engine coolant level

    • Brake fluid level

    • Power steering fluid level (if applicable)

    • Transmission fluid

    • Windshield washer fluid reservoir level

  • Check belts for tension, cracks or wear.

  • Check hoses for leaks, cracks or wear.

  • Inspect the engine and under the car for any leaks.

  • Check tire pressure on all tires, including the spare tire.

  • Inspect the tread depth. The tread should be at least as deep as the head of a penny. (At least 2/32" remaining tread.)

  • Inspect tires for uneven wear or any object that could cause a puncture.

Summer Checklists

Hot weather creates extreme conditions for vehicles. The increased temperature can cause fluids and oil lubricants to break down, which could  lead to decreased performance, engine seizing and possibly permanent damage to your car's engine.

Late spring, after all danger of unexpected winter storms has passed, is the best time to get your car ready for summer heat. Our A1 Automotive Technicians can also inspect your vehicle to help make sure it's ready for summer.

TIRE SERVICES

With some simple maintenance, taking care of your tires can help keep you on the road for thousands of trouble-free miles. Visit a technician at A1 Automotive for:

Changing A Flat Tire

While you can’t prevent a flat tire, you can help minimize the hassle and damage to your tire by being prepared.

Tire Balancing

If overlooked, unbalanced tires can lead to uneven wear, vibration and potentially unsafe driving conditions. Your local technician at A1 Automotive can help determine whether your tires need to be rotated and balanced based on wear or mileage.

Getting your tires balanced can mean:

  • Smoother ride

  • Increased Comfort

  • Less driver fatigue

  • Enhanced tire wear

  • Enhanced for tires and drive train components

Tire Installation

Tires should be selected by the correct size for the vehicle, and should be purchased in sets of four or at least matching sets of two on each axle.

Proper installation of your new tires includes

  • Inspecting the lug nuts for wear

  • Installing new valve stems

  • Mounting the tires

  • Proper balancing

  • Checking the disc brake caliper clearance, as well as the distance between calipers, wheels and rims to inspect for no interference

  • Tightening lugs to proper torque as determined by the manufacturer

Tire Rotation

Regular tire rotation helps avoid uneven tire wear that can lead to poor performance and gas mileage. Rotating your tires means moving them from one side of the vehicle to the other, moving them from front to back, or a combination of both.

Some tires need rotation at specific intervals, while others will need rotation depending on the wear. To find out when your tires need rotation, check your owner's manual or ask a technician at A1 Automotive.

Wheel Alignment

Wheel alignment is the position of your wheels relative to your vehicle. When properly aligned, your wheels will point in the same direction as the vehicle.

Poor alignment leads to difficulty steering, uneven wear on tires, and decreased fuel economy.

An alignment check at A1 Automotive includes:

  • Inspection of the steering and suspension components

  • Examination of the tires for size, inflation and wear

  • Comparison of your alignment to vehicle manufacturer guidelines
